small business ownerNo matter how much formal education you have, the best education for any business owners may be learning from people who have gone through the ringer and came out the other side as a leader in their industry. We at PayAnywhere have gathered some of the best ways they work, and characteristics they have to share with you as you build the most successful business you can.

Be logical. The best in the business, no matter what business, know not to get bogged down in the emotions of the problem, and simply looks logically at the issue to solve it. Then they can put the issue aside and work on the next challenge.

Keep an open mind. The most successful coaches are the ones that are open to new ideas. Sure, having a core set of plays is a good base to build off of, but when a new player (or opportunity) shows they can be even more successful with a shift in strategy they do it. In the business world, the business owner that doesn’t embrace new ideas are doomed just to tread water, or eventually fail and have to close their doors.

Do what you enjoy. The good people at entrepreneur.com truly believe in the adage of love what you do, do what you love. They explain it this way: What you get out of your business in the form of personal satisfaction, financial gain, stability and enjoyment will be the sum of what you put into your business. So if you don't enjoy what you're doing, in all likelihood it's safe to assume that will be reflected in the success of your business--or subsequent lack of success. In fact, if you don't enjoy what you're doing, chances are you won't succeed.

Mistakes aren’t always bad. Many employees try to hide mistakes when they discover they made one. Inc.com says the most successful people see mistakes as something to learn from, so they are avoided the next time if the same situation arises. And since those same leaders keep an open mind, they understand the only way to avoid mistakes is to stop searching for a better way to do business, or coming up with a new idea. That’s not in their makeup, so they accept mistakes as a learning experience and a cost of doing forward-thinking business.

Have the right equipment for success. You can level any playing field with the right equipment. Technology allows any size business to appear to be bigger than they are, and when used right, the technology can help them perform bigger than they truly are. Don’t fall into the “must have the latest and greatest” attitude, get the technology that fits your needs but always have an eye for a better alternative.

Let others succeed.  We’re not talking about your competitors here, far from it. Create an environment for your business where you not only allow your employees to grow, but promote it.  Surround yourself with go-getters and give them an environment to flourish, and embrace their growth as a benefit for your business.
