What is Tap to Pay on iPhone?
- Tap to Pay on iPhone lets you accept contactless payments, right on iPhone — without any extra terminals or hardware. Accept payments from contactless credit or debit cards, Apple Pay, Apple Watch, and smartphones with other digital wallets. All you need is a supported app from the App Store.
What iPhones are compatible with Tap to Pay on iPhone?
- Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.7 or later.
- Apple is investigating an issue that may be affecting merchants on iOS 17.4.x and 17.5. If you are encountering an issue on these versions, updating to iOS 17.5.1 will resolve it. As a reminder, it is recommended to always update to the latest iOS version available.
To set up Tap to Pay on iPhone:
- Log in to the Payanywhere app.
- Head to Settings → Payment Types.
- Toggle on Tap to Pay on iPhone.
- Start accepting in-person, contactless payments, right on your iPhone - from physical debit and credit cards, to Apple Pay and other digital wallets.
What types of contactless payments can I accept?
- Contactless cards + digital wallets. All card brands that are supported.
How do I know if a card is contactless?
- To confirm if your customer has a contactless card, look for the EMV® Contactless Indicator on the back or the front of the card.
What does it cost?
- Tap to Pay functionality within the Payanywhere app on iOS: 1. mPOS Per Item Fee of $0.05 per transaction and 2. mPOS Per Day Per Active Device Fee of $0.50 per day per active device.
Where are the payments I accept with Tap to Pay on iPhone deposited?
- All payments you accept with Tap to Pay on iPhone are processed by Payanywhere and deposited to the bank account you have on file.
Is Tap to Pay on iPhone secure?
- Tap to Pay on iPhone user the built-in features of iPhone to keep your business and your customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, Apple does not store card numbers on the device or on Apple servers, so you can rest assured knowing your business stays yours.
How do I accept Apple Pay or other digital wallets and wearables?
- To accept Apple Pay, present your iPhone to the customer and ask the customer to hold their iPhone near the tap area until done.
- To accept Apple Pay on Apple Watch, present your iPhone to the customer and ask the customer to hold their Apple Watch near the tap area until done.
- To accept payments from other digital wallets and wearables, ask the customer to hold the paying device near the tap area of your iPhone until done.
Will using Tap to Pay on iPhone effect the battery life of my device?
- No. Tap to Pay on iPhone won't have a noticeable impact on battery life.
Can I change the business name that shows on Tap to Pay on iPhone?
- This is your DBA name that you provided on your merchant application. To change your business name, please contact Customer Service.
I no longer want to use Tap to Pay on iPhone. Can I disable it?
- Disable Tap to Pay on iPhone in the Payanywhere app under Settings → Payment Types → Toggle off Tap to Pay on iPhone.
