Connect a credit card reader to your computer via Bluetooth or USB to accept card present transactions through your Virtual Terminal. Card present Virtual Terminal transactions are charged the swipe rate.

What you’ll need.
Payanywhere 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 Bluetooth Credit Card Reader (black BBPOS model).
The Virtual Terminal does not support the PAX D135 3-in-1 reader model currently.
Must be boarded with EPX as a retail or ecommerce account.
Download the Payanywhere app driver to your computer.
A USB cord (provided with reader).
Mac users can connect via Bluetooth if needed.
Downloading the Payanywhere app driver.
Log in and head to Virtual Terminal.
Click the Payment Method dropdown and select Use a Card Reader.
Mac - Open and drag Payanywhere app driver icon into the application folder.
If you receive a "Developer Not Supported" prompt, be sure to view your Security & Privacy Settings under System Preferences, and select the "Open Anyway" option for Payanywhere. Then click Open on the following dialog presented.
Windows - Open the downloaded file and an install wizard will appear if applicable.
Now when you select Use a Card Reader you should see the driver attempting to connect to the card reader.
Connect the reader via Bluetooth or USB.
To accept card present Virtual Terminal transactions:
Log in and head to Virtual Terminal.
Click the Payment Method dropdown and select Use a Card Reader.
Click Open Payanywhere when the pop up appears.
Check “Always open these types of links in the associated app” to skip this step in the future.
Ensure your reader is on and nearby.
You’ll see Reader is Ready to use when the reader has connected.
Enter the payment amount, transaction details, and customer information.
Click Start Reader and wait for reader to initiate.
Insert, tap, or swipe the card.
3-in-1 reader - NFC contactless is now supported.
Remove card when prompted and you’ll receive an Approved status when the transaction has processed.
Print the receipt if you need to capture a signature. The customer will also receive an email or SMS text receipt depending on the contact information you included.
Troubleshooting
Card reader dialog box displays “Connecting” for longer than 30 seconds:
Close the Payanywhere driver app.
Refresh the page/browser window.
Re-enter the amount and select Use a Card Reader from the Payment Method dropdown.
Card reader dialog box displays “Reading card data” for longer than 10-15 seconds before being prompted to insert/swipe:
Click Cancel then Start Reader again.
If you keep seeing “Reading card data” for longer than 10-15 seconds when you insert the card, you’re likely inserting the card wrong side up.
The Payanywhere driver app is displaying a loading wheel for longer than 30 seconds:
Refresh the browser.
Cannot establish connection to reader within the Payanywhere app driver:
If you’ve disconnected the card reader at any point, you may need to quit and relaunch the Payanywhere app driver.
The Cancel button is not responsive:
Refresh the browser window.
Reader state stuck on waiting for a response:
- If you click Start Reader then leave Virtual Terminal for another tab, when you return to Virtual Terminal you'll see that the reader dialog box is stuck on waiting for a response.
- Refresh the browser window and click Start Reader again.
Use a Card Reader redirects to error page (Firefox specific):
Type “about:config” in the URL input in Firefox.
Right click and select Add or New → String from the menu.
In the first input, type ‘network.protocol-handler.expose.payanywhere’
In the second input type the full path to the executable - C:\Program Files (x86)\PayAnywhere\Card Reader\PayAnywhere.exe (or the application path for OSX)
Use a Card Reader not responding (Firefox specific):
Click the menu button and choose Options.
Select the Privacy & Security panel.
In the Cookies and Site Data section, click Clear Data.
Remove the check mark in front of Cookies and Site Data.
With Cached Web Content check marked, click the Clear button.
Close the about:preferences page. Any changes you’ve made will automatically be saved.
