BrandingIt can sometimes be difficult for small business to sounds human in their marketing and social media efforts. Instead, some opt to sound professional come off more robotic and cold. It's ok to have a little fun with your marketing and social media – the more human your business sounds, the more likely it is to attract customers and fans.

People want to make connections, and the best way to get people to connect with your brand is to follow these three tips for creating a human voice:

1. Make your brand’s tone personal, approachable and engaging.

Portraying your business as an industry leader is great for attracting customers and building your business’s credibility – but it won’t mean a thing if you don’t present your professional and educational materials in a fun, engaging tone. By injecting a little fun into your marketing and social media, you can make even the most boring or technical of businesses one that connects with customers.

2. Speak the language of your audience.

Lose the corporate jargon, sales talk and overly fluffy language. Instead, talk to your customers like a normal person. You can still present complicated or educational materials in an informative way that doesn’t talk down to or alienate your customer base. The more approachable you are in your marketing and social media efforts, the better the results for your business.

3. Be available.

You should always be available when it comes to your business’s online persona. If you are posting regularly to social media, make sure you are available to respond to any and all comments, questions and reviews from fans. If you schedule your posts, and ignore the customer engagement, you will quickly lose fans of your business. Being available and creating a viable, engaging online community is one of the best ways to show that your business has a human side.
